But today’s album, isn’t really an album at all, it’s a soundtrack. More so for the sake of cleanliness and aesthetics. Today I decided to combine both the about and thoughts sections. Year 3, Day 35: Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies Official SoundtrackĬlick here for the full tracklist of this official soundtrack. Not going to lie, for as epic as the final track that plays in the next mission ( The Unsung War), Dead Ahead is equally as epic. The strings swell with urgency and sense of desperation. The bass is truly like a pulse or heartbeat in how it thumps and how the bassist slaps it.

Those strings and the electric bass guitar get me every time. The strings swell around the two minute mark, signifying that the climax is here and you destroyed the control device. The bass guitar almost thumps like a heartbeat. It keeps building and the urgency continues as an electric bass guitar joins in the fray with the orchestra about 30 seconds into it. It starts out slow, building up the sense of urgency and fear… knowing the one wrong move and game over. Oh man, the tempo also helps set the mood. The percussion, specifically the drums, add a sense of almost surreal calm, like water droplets falling from the ceiling and splashing on the ground. You really feel like your in the cockpit of your fighter jet in the middle of a tunnel with almost no clearance in either direction. The horns and strings provide a sense of eerie claustrophobia. It perfect highlights the emotion and raw feeling of the moment. It truly is one of the best tracks from this game.

I’ll try to keep this as spoiler free as possible from here on out, but I’m not sure how well I’ll do.Īnyway back to the music. Essentially, it’s a big-ass satellite in outer space, orbiting alternative version of Earth, that fires a kinetic energy weapon, in this case a MIRV (Multiple Independently targetable Reentry Vehicle) carrying nuclear warheads. That something is the control modules/devices for a massive orbital weapons platform. It plays after the “update” during the Mission 27 (aka “ACES”), where you get the tunnel entrance open and have to fly into the tunnel and destroy something inside the tunnel. Dead Ahead, is one of my favorite tracks from the Ace Combat 5 Official Soundtrack. Anyway, let’s celebrate by checking out one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite video games, Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War. AGAIN, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED….***ĭay 200! I’m honestly surprised that I made it this far without forgetting to post. THIS IS YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD WARNING, JUST LETTING YOU KNOW THAT THIS POST MAY AND PROBABLY DOES CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR A 14 YEAR OLD VIDEO GAME.
